Atlantic Beach Emergency Physician John E. Stimler, DO, Recognized by the American College
of Emergency Physicians as a "Hero of Emergency Medicine"
Washington, D.C., November 3, 2008 - The American College of Emergency Physicians
(ACEP) today announced it has recognized John E. Stimler, DO, CPC, FACEP, founder and managing
member of BSA Healthcare, as a "Hero of Emergency Medicine." The campaign, which is part of
ACEP's 40th anniversary, recognizes emergency physicians who have made significant contributions
to emergency medicine, their communities and their patients.
"Emergency physicians are on the front lines of America's health care system, providing the
essential community service of emergency care," says ACEP President Linda L. Lawrence, MD.
"The dedication, passion and commitment Dr. Stimler has shown embodies the vision of ACEP's
founders and the ideals of our specialty."
Dr. Stimler also practices at the University of Florida, Shands Jacksonville, and at St.
Luke's Hospital. He is a founder and managing member of the emergency medicine consulting company
Bettinger, Stimler, Schultz & Associates (BSA Healthcare). For the past 33 years he has been actively
involved, at the local and national levels, in issues common to emergency medicine practice management.
Dr. Stimler helps emergency medicine groups and the vendors who serve them to improve documentation
and coding quality, financial performance, organizational structure, and strategic direction.
Dr. Stimler served as an ACEP councillor and served on ACEP's Government Affairs and Reimbursement
Committees. He is past president and chair of Florida ACEP's Medical Economics Committee, and currently
serves on Florida ACEP's Government Affairs and Medical Economics Committees. Dr. Stimler is an
attending clinical faculty member for the Shands Jacksonville emergency medicine residency program. He
also practices clinical emergency medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Stimler is
most grateful for the opportunity to teach young and aspiring future emergency physicians.
"The American College of Emergency Physicians is celebrating 40 years of advancing emergency care,
and the nation's emergency physicians are dedicated to saving even more lives and to improving
emergency care for the next 40 years," said Dr. Lawrence. "Tens of thousands of lives are saved
each year by emergency physicians and 115 million patients are treated in the nation's emergency
departments. Emergency physicians are medical specialists who are experts in their field."
